Our School
The Franglophones’ school opened its doors on 1st October 2009, funded in part by a grant from ‘Awards for All’. The school is intended for children of a bilingual, Anglo-French background and its object is to provide them with formal teaching of the French language. Although these children very often speak French, they do not always know how to read or write it.
Our school is for children aged from 4 to 11 years, i.e. from Reception to Year 6. The youngest children develop their spoken French by means of educational games and activities. Older children are introduced to, or encouraged to improve, French grammar and reading and writing in French. The teaching programme is based on the French curriculum devised for bilingual children, in partnership with the French Embassy in London (see the FLAM internet site under the links section).
At present, these courses are held in Lewes and in Hove and are organised into groups of varying levels.
